Okay y'all, today I'm going to review Rudi's Gluten Free Bakery Spinach Tortillas! :D To start off, I bought them at Kroger where eight of them were $1.29 on Manager's Special (proof in the picture below) their regular price is listed as $2.64 which is FAR better price wise than Aldi's LiveGfree Wraps (six for $3.99) So, that's awesome. They get MAJOR points for great price, right? But, I'm sure you're wondering "how do they taste?" Well . . . Let's be all scientific and break this up into categories . . . shall we? Texture: Fabulous. A bit thinner than your run of the mill glutenous tortilla, but fabulous none the less. Out of 10 stars, I'd give the texture a solid 8. The definitely could be fluffier, but this isn't naan we're talking about here, it is tortillas. And for tortillas, these are pretty stinkin' awesome! Pliability: FANTASTIC. You can roll these up, and nothing happens. Want to bend one in half for a sandwich? NO PROBLEM! These will do that. Unlike other Gluten Free tortillas I've tried, these are truly pliable. 10 out of 10 stars. Taste: The big question . . . "How do these taste!?" Well, I'm gonna tell ya'. Ready? Okay! (a little former cheerleader lingo there) These taste awesome. Maybe it's just because I've been loving anything spinach lately, but these are delicious! They have a savory flavor, but it is definitely not straight spinach. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to use these for PB&J, but you may be surprised by how subtle the spinach flavor really is. Overall, they get 10 out of 10 stars for taste! And, finally . . . Price: Now, I know we touched on this a second ago, but I truly think these are UNBEATABLE for the price. I'm hoping there will still be some on Manager's Special next time I head to Kroger! For price I'm giving these 10 out of 10 because I've NEVER seen Gluten Free tortillas for this price, and I'm SO excited about these! ;) That's all the gushing I can do on these in one post, but I would DEFINITELY recommend them! So go try some, I bet you'll like them! You can even make a quesadilla like I did! See: (As usual, ALL opinions expressed in this review are my own. Rudi's has NO IDEA who I am, though I am definitely interested in making new friends. Hear that, Rudi?) Have a Tremendous Thursday, y'all!
Love, Olivia As y'all know, I love Aldi's Gluten Free product line. So, I figured I'd do a review on another one of their products. :) Today, I'll be reviewing the Gluten Free Pizza Crust Mix! We'll do this review based on Three categories! Price, Yield, and Taste. Let's dive straight into our review, shall we? Price: One of the cheapest mixes on the market at $2.99 for 16.5 ounces compared to a couple other brands at $4.27 for 16 ounces, and $17.39 for 18 ounces. Yield: The package states it will make 2 10-inch pizza crusts, but we typically use it in a rectangular jelly roll pan, meaning I cannot accurately attest to whether or not it yields the amount claimed. This seems to be a bit more than some crust mixes: this one for example. I think it's about average overall though. Taste: The Aldi mix is awesome! We've liked it regardless of our choice of toppings. I'd give it 9/10 stars, simply because it isn't the best at rising, making it a little less fluffy than regular pizza crust. Overall: I think for the price, the Aldi pizza crust mix is UNBEATABLE! It is simple to make. It's far cheaper than other comparable mixes for around the same amount. I'd definitely recommend it, and think y'all should give it a try! Just one tip: Make sure you have some other gluten free flour to put on your hands to spread that crust on your pan. Could be a toughie if your hands are not prepared! Assuming you're making pizza soon. ;) Here's a look at one of the pizzas we've made with it: Pretty, huh? And, let's face it, homemade pizza is a THOUSAND times better than pizza from a box in the freezer section!
I hope y'all found this review helpful! Tell me in the comments below what your favorite kind of pizza is! I think it's fun to hear how creative others get with their pizza. What is the most unusual topping you or someone you know has put on a pizza? As always, all opinions expressed in this post are ENTIRELY my own. Aldi has NO clue I exist. I hope y'all have a Terrific Tuesday and that you'll come right on back tomorrow for a new post! Love, Olivia Hey There! Come on in! Today we're talking about Immaculate Gluten Free Sugar Cookie Dough Mix ! :D We bought this mix at Walmart, but you can find it at Kroger, which is where I saw it this morning, or at a number of other grocery stores. You can also buy it in bulk at Amazon. (And trust me, you will want to buy it in bulk.) I am going to do a pros and cons list for these today. It just works. Let's get into the review, shall we? Pros:
Cons:
These cookies are DELICIOUS! They'd be adorable frosted and possibly even cuter with sprinkles! ;) I'd highly recommend these. They'd be perfect for birthday or dinner parties, bible study snacks, school lunches, dessert with dinner, or just a general snack throughout your day. They would not be great rolled out into shapes, but the decorating options with colored sugars/gluten free jimmies or topping with your favorite gluten free frosting are endless. I'm not saying y'all need to go right out today and try these, but I'd highly suggest it! If y'all are in the market for a Gluten Free Sugar Cookie Mix soon, this would certainly be the mix I would recommend. Oh, and as always, all the opinions expressed in this post are solely my own! Immaculate Baking has no clue who I am! Hope y'all have a WONDERFUL day! I am going to go find out if my mom snagged the last of our sugar cookies. Wish me luck! Love, Olivia Okie dokie y'all!! So,the other day, we looked over the products I received in my Send Me Gluten Free Box. If you missed that video, you can find it here. Today we are going to walk back through each product, and I am going to give you my opinion on each one. Here we go: 1. Mediterranean Snacks Sea Salt Lentil Chips
These were just all right. I wasn't terribly impressed by the texture, but the flavor was okay. I feel they'd be far better with hummus or some kind of dip, but overall, they weren't terrible. I'm not sure I'd buy them, but I will know better once I test them with hummus. ;) 2. YogaVive Chocolate Apple Chips The texture is awesome! They're nice and crunchy with a pleasant apple flavor after the pesky initial chocolate scratch and sniff type flavor is out of the way. The smell isn't necessarily the greatest, but I think that's in large part to the chocolate. Overall, I'd buy them on my own -- more likely in a flavor like cinnamon. 3. I Heart Keenwah Sample Size Chocolate Sea Salt Quinoa Cluster These were crunchy with a pleasant texture after recognizing that you won't break any teeth. They're quite hard at first bite, almost like a peanut brittle. My one quip with this product is that they have a wee bit of an earthy aftertaste. Other than that; they're fine! I would buy these. :) 4. NoGii Nuts About Berries Sample Size Paleo Bar This was DELICIOUS. The texture is VERY similar to a Larabar. The flavor is very berry, and oh so yummy. The nuts are ground so fine that they're almost unrecognizable, giving it an almost fruit leather quality. Overall, I'd buy them on my own and wished the sample size was bigger. 5. A Coupon for ONE FREE GF Product from Conte's Pasta This would be super cool if any stores in my area stocked their products. The closest place I could buy it is 223 miles away. A tad bit of a drive to use a coupon. 6. Nature's Path Dark Chocolate Chip Organic Granola Bar These had a bit of a rancid/oily aftertaste. The texture is fine. It just tasted stale and left me wanting something else. 7. Kemnitz Family Kitchen Sample Pack of Gluten Free Labels Variety Pack These are cool, and I can't wait to use them all! I think they're SUCH a great thing to have. 8. Sample Size Primal Pit Paste in Lavender Like I said in the video, this is SUPER strong and stays that way the whole time I was wearing it. It works great. It just smells REALLY lavendery, so you must commit to smelling that way for the duration. :/ 9. Bonne Maman Sample Size Strawberry Preserves These were delicious. I used a spoonful as topping on vanilla bean ice cream, and OH MY WORD. So, so yummy y'all! I'd definitely buy these -- maybe even in bulk. They'd so be worth the price! ;) 10. Country Life Sample Pack CoEnzyme B-Complex Caps I have yet to try these, but I will be sure to update this post when I do! 11. Redd Remedies Pain T4 Sample Pack These seem cool. I'll update y'all once I do try them! Hope y'all enjoy this post and don't forget to enter my giveaway!! Overall, I would eat them again. But I'd probably leave off the creme, which is usually my favorite part. They're not fantastic, but they're not horrible. They're just, eh. I was terribly disappointed as I'd had high hopes for these cookies, and these kind of dashed those. :( Though maybe I'll use them in a chocolate cream pie as the crust . . . hmm . . . that's a great idea! Off to get some of the ingredients as soon as I finish this little post!
By the way, if you eat them the wrong way (whole, as opposed to twisting the top off, then eating the creme and second cookie together) they taste FAR better, and it assists in canceling out the sandy texture. Well, ya win some and ya lose some. What have y'all's most disappointing Gluten Free product tests been? Let me know in the comments, and have a fabulous day! Love, Olivia Hey y'all! What are you up to today? I'm getting some work done and doing some recipe testing. Wanna guess what the next food tutorial will be? Let me know in the comments! ;) Anyways, onto the title of this post, I know y'all are thinking "Blank vs. Blank!? Has she lost her ever-loving mind? Aren't there supposed to be brands or products there?" Well, let me explain. This is the very first part of a series I'm starting comparing two Gluten Free products at a time based upon three criteria: Taste, Quantity and Price. After that, I'll give each product an overall rating on a scale of 1 to 5. At the end, we'll compare them overall and declare a winner! Sound good? Good. Here we go! So, what products are dueling this week, you ask? Well . . . On the right side of our ring, coming in at a whopping 4.5 ounces are Crunchmaster's Rosemary & Olive Oil Multi- Seed Crackers! Taste: These are alright. Nothing to write home about, but if you want a vessel for specialty meats and cheeses, these will get the job done. Flavor is good, but could use more oomph in my opinion. Also, they have a funny aftertaste to me. Also a slightly styrofoamy texture. (Yes, I did just create the word styrofoamy) ;) Quantity: The serving size states there is about four servings per bag, and a serving is 14 crackers. So, you get about 56 crackers in a bag. Not bad. I just wish more of those were whole crackers. They seem to break easily, and you end up with quite a few broken crackers. Price: I think we get them for between $3 and $4 at Kroger. Per cracker, that rounds out to about $0.06 each. Results: Overall, these are mediocre crackers. There's just something strange I can't quite put my finger on. Yet if they were the only crackers I had available, I'd probably deal with it and eat these. Score: A solid 2.5 out of 5 On the left side of our ring, weighing in at 4.25 ounces is our competitor: the LiveGfree Gluten Free Rosemary & Olive Oil Multiseed Snack Crackers. Taste: These have a far bolder flavor than the Crunchmaster version. I don't NEED specialty cheeses and meat to eat these. I like them all by themselves. Flavor is great and texture is far better.
Quantity: The bag says about 4 servings of 11 crackers. So, you get around 44 crackers in a bag. I wish more were whole crackers. They break easily, and you do get quite a few broken crackers in this bag as well. Price: $1.49 at Aldi! $1.49!! Yippee! Which totals out to about $0.03 per cracker (half of the other brand's cost per cracker!) Results: These are far better crackers, in my opinion. They have far more flavor, far better texture, and they are cheaper. Score: 4 out of 5. If fewer crackers were broken, they'd have earned a 5; no questions about it! And, the winner is . . . Aldi LiveGfree Rosemary and Olive Oil Multiseed Snack Crackers! Here's why:
Tune back in soon for more posts! You never know what you'll find. ;) One last thing. What are y'all's favorite Gluten Free Crackers? Let me know in the comments! ;) Have a fabulous Friday!! Love, Olivia Hey y'all! Happy Sunday! I'm starting a weekly post for recipes here on the blog every Sunday. I'll either give y'all a recipe or review a recipe and go step by step in making it. Without further ado, let's get baking! Recipe: Pumpkin Spice Muffins (ala Olivia*) from The Lagasse Girls in The Gluten Free Table Cookbook Ingredients:
There are three steps initially if you are using real pumpkin vs. canned pumpkin. I'm not going to add those here because that's not how I made my muffins. So, technically I'm listing step 4 as step 1. If you want to make them with real pumpkin, buy The Lagasse Girls Cookbook! ;) 1) Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit 2) Line one 12- cup muffin tin or two 6- cup tins with paper muffin cups. (Or do what I do and just grease the tin.) 3) In a medium-sized bowl, combine the flour blend, sugar, baking powder, pumpkin spice, nutmeg, and cranberries and stir with a fork to mix well. (it will look like the picture below) 4) In a separate bowl, combine the milk, egg, orange juice and zest, butter and vanilla extract. Stir well to blend thoroughly. (This is where I added in the apple cider for more moistness.) 5) Add the canned pumpkin to the wet mixture and stir well. (It will look like the picture below.) 6) Gently but thoroughly fold the dry ingredients into the pumpkin mixture. It's okay if the batter still contains a few lumps. (I added the wet to the dry. You can see it below.) 7) Spoon the batter into the 12 muffin cups, dividing evenly and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. The recipe does have some other steps past this point, but I haven't found these steps necessary in my making of these muffins. So. . . . . SHAZAM! Muffins! Yay! These are really yummy with some butter and a glass of apple cider. They'd probably be fantastic with apple butter as well, but I have none at the moment. :( Have fun baking, and Happy Fall, Y'all!
